Eco Friendly Swaps
One of the reasons often given for not making greener and more eco friendly swaps and choices is cost. We are fed the idea that anything with an ‘eco’ or ‘green’ tag comes at a hefty price but in reality the opposite is often true.
Easy eco friendly swaps can be made in our everyday lives that won’t break the bank. The below examples are just some of the ways you can think about making small greener changes.
Reusable Glass Bottles
When thinking about reducing our use of plastic a simple eco friendly swap is to ditch the squeezy plastic bottles of mayo and ketchup and instead select reusable glass bottles and jars next time you run out and are re-stocking.
A number of supermarket own brand sauces come in glass and are often cheaper than the big brands, making this a better for your wallet as well as the environment.
Choosing to stop buying plastic bottles of water and start using a reusable water bottle is another simple and quick way of reducing your plastic usage and will save you a lot of money in the long term.
Swapping to a good quality stainless steel water bottle may seem an expensive outlay at first but it will last for years and will pay for itself very quickly if you were buying water on a regular basis.
Reusable Face Masks
Opting for a selection of reusable face masks (or making your own) instead of continuously buying packs of single use disposable face masks (made from plastic) will not only prevent you from adding to the newly growing waste stream but save you money.
Reusable face masks may seem like an expensive initial outlay but being reusable they are exactly that, reusable, so you only need to buy a few of them initially. They can be popped into your washing machine with a normal load each time you have finished with them to be used again, over and over. So you don’t have to keep buying packets of disposable ones.
These are just a few examples of green swaps that won’t cost you a fortune and can be made today.
